The artist known as Gill, a native of San Francisco, is known for his beautifully stylized depictions of Hawaiians. The artwork of Gill is regarded as the most recognizable of a period when the method of air brush stenciling was being used. The artist was able to achieve complex textures by this unique layering technique. However, due to WWII the materials needed for this artform lessened in quality and only a few originals from this period have been preserved.
