In the 1930's the Matson Shipping Company commisioned the artist Frank Macintosh to produce highly stylized covers for the menus that were to be used aboard the company’s very popular ocean liners.

His art would later find additional use in printed material to promote Hawaii as a premier travel destination.

Macintosh’s work is known more than any other artist as exceptionally capturing the romanticism of Hawaii during this unique period.
